JULY 1997 - STANLEY, NORTH CAROLINA

Business Meeting 1st Reunion Stanley, NC 1997

Held at the American Legion Post in Stanley, NC

The meeting was called to order by Reunion Host, Eddie Wyatt.

 NEW BUSINESS

Eddie Wyatt introduced himself and welcomed everyone to Stanley NC.

OBJECTIVE:

• To establish a 2-3-3 Association.

• To actively search and find fellow Vietnam Vets from 2-3-3, bring them home to the Battalion.

• To establish a newsletter to keep everyone informed on things happening within the association and with it's membership.

• To hold a reunion and generally have fun.

A question was put on the floor as to which would be better, an Organization/Association vs a Corporation.

Felix Moring who was present offered the following information:

With both you need to elect officers, President, at least 1 Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

CORPORATION:

• If you are a corporation you need a PERMANENT BASE of operations

•PERMANENT HEAD of the corporation.

• You need to file for a TAX ID number.

• File a TAX RETURN every year and adhere to many government regulations. Also, if any member attending a reunion should be involved in an accident, such as heading back to the hotel after drinking at the Banquet, the corporation, all officers and the entire membership could be held legally responsible as contributing factors.

NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION / ASSOCIATION

•You do not need to apply for a TAX ID number.

•You do not need to file taxes at the end of the year

•New officers can be elected every year.

•You are allowed to collect dues and keep said dues in the treasury for operating expenses such as, all supplies for membership cards, printing and mailing of the newsletter, start up costs for deposits on future reunions and any other expenses that may come up thru the year.

Felix Moring's advice was that an Association was in the best interest of all members.

M/S/C to create an Association.
